In the years 1873-76 Franz Liszt composed ‘Weihnachtsbaum’ (Christmas Tree), a suite of 12 pieces for solo piano and later for piano four-hands. The suite does not demand great virtuosity and it has been described as a distant relation of Schumann's ‘Kinderszenen’ and Debussy's ‘Children's Corner’.
Most of the 12 pieces are based on Christmas carols. The fourth piece in the suite is ‘Adeste fideles, Gleichsam als Marsch der heiligen drei Könige’ (Adeste Fideles: March of the Three Holy Kings).
Dutch arranger Gerard Posch transcribed this ‘Adeste Fideles’ for Symphonic Band.
