The opera buffa ‘Don Giovanni’ is one of the three Mozart operas for which Da Ponte wrote the libretto. The other two Da Ponte-Mozart collaborations were ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ and ‘Così fan tutte’.
‘Don Giovanni’ is a dramma giocoso blending comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements and is regarded as one of the greatest operas of all time. The overture of ‘Don Giovanni’ is well known and often played independently as a concert piece. Belgian arranger Yorick De Bruycker transcribed this overture for a Symphonic Band.
