Carl Millöcker (1842-1899), was an Austrian composer mainly known for his operetta Der Bettelstudent. In 1884 Millocker composed the opereatta Gasparone. on a libretto by Friedrich Zell and Richard Genée which was premiered in 1884 at the Theater an der Wien. One of the highlights from Gasparone is Erminios aria Dunkelrote Rosen bring' ich, schöne Frau. This aria belongs originally to the operetta Der Vizeadmiral but in 1931 it was transferred to Gasparone by the adaptation of Steffan and Knepler and has since then been connected to the operetta title.
