The English composer Henry Purcell (1659-1695) wrote funeral music that includes his 'Funeral Sentences' and the later 'Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary'. It was first performed at the funeral of Queen Mary II of England in March 1695.
Italian arranger Dietmar Rainer transcribed five movements from this funeral music for Symphonic Band: 'March', 'Man that is born of a Woman', 'Canzona' and 'Thou knowest, Lord'. The final movement of the 'Funeral Music for Queen Mary' is a reprise of the well known 'March'.
