Paul Lincke (1866-1946) is Germany's best known operetta composer and often compared with Austria's Johann Strauss. He composed a lot of operetta's, songs, dance- , revue- and filmmusic.
In 1902 he composed the Operetta 'Lysistrata', an ancient Greek comedy. Despite the fact that 'Lysistrata' does not match the success of his operetta 'Frau Luna' with the well-known march 'Berliner Luft', the work has nevertheless produced some unforgettable melodies. The most famous is 'Das Glühwürmchen'. In the operetta this was presented as a terzet, but it became world famous as 'The Glow Worm Idyll'. Dutch arranger Jos van de Braak transcribed this 'Glow Worm Idyll' for Symphonic Band.
