The Austrian composer Carl Zeller (1842-1898) did contribute a great part to the glory of the Golden Era of the Viennese operetta in which Johann Strauss jr., Franz von Suppé and Karl Millöcker were the big names. Der Vogelhändler is one of the most performed works in the operetta repertoire. The music is charming and witty, and well known: Ich bin die Christel von der Post, Schenkt man sich Rosen in Tirol, Grüss euch Gott! and Als geblüht der Kirschenbaum, it's all as famous as sparkling.
