'La Pícara Molinera' (‘The teasing millgirl’) is a zarzuela by Spanish composer Pablo Luna (1879-1942). Premiered in 1928, 'La Pícara Molinera' is considered as one of the great successes of the composer. The music of Luna is masterly, a feast of passionate melody, garnished with Asturian flavourings and succulent orchestral writing and this is reflected, among other things, in the beautiful intermezzo from Act 2 with its stirring tune and rhythmically pointed cross-melodies, woodwind and tambourine.
Spanish arranger Sergio Rodríguez Pena transcribed this ‘intermedio’ for Symphonic Band.
