Jéronimo Giménez (1854-1923) was born in Sevilla. music. His most well known compositions are 'El baile de Luis Alonso' (1896), 'La boda de Luis Alonso' (1897) and 'La Torre del Oro' (1902). As is quite common in the genre of Zarzuela, and even more so in many works by Giménez, the music is more important than the texts. This also applies to 'La Torre del Oro', which is no more than an average saga. It's only the 'Preludio' which has resisted the passing of time. In this 'Preludio Sinfónico' the solemnity of certain phrases are juggled with fancy phrases of others used by Andalusian popular music, including fandangos, malagueñas and zapateados, melodies and rhythms which reappear time and again throughout the work.
Spanish arranger Sergio Rodríguez Pena transcribed this 'preludio' now for Symphonic Band.
