Max Reger (1873 –1916), was a German composer, pianist, organist, conductor, and academic teacher. Between 1904 and 1912 Reger composed the ‘Schlichten Weisen’ op. 76, 60 songs in 6 volumes. One of the songs is ‘Mariä Wiegenlied’ in which he used an old Christmas song ‘Joseph, lieber Joseph’. Because this song was very successful he orchestrated it as well for high voice and chamber orchestra. Italian arranger Dietmar Rainer transcribed this song for soprano and wind ensemble.
