Till his dead on 3rd April 1972 Ferde Grofé produced dozens of compositions including film scores, jazz band arrangements and some 'nature suites', evoking the rich musical spirit of America as he percieved it. His most popular contributions to this genre are his Grand Canyon Suite (1931 ) and the four-movement Mississippi Suite (1926). The Mississippi Suite is a portrait of the mighty river in four movements. Dutch arranger Stefan Outjes transcribed this typical American characteristic work for concert band.
