'Capriccio' is the final opera by German composer Richard Strauss. It is subtitled 'A Conversation Piece for Music' and received its premiere performance at the 'Nationaltheater München' on 28 October 1942. The opera originally consisted of a single act. The final scene for Countess Madeleine is often heard as an excerpt and is preceded by the overwhelming orchestral 'Mondscheinmusik'. Swiss arranger Simon Scheiwiller transcribed this 'Mondscheinmusik' for Symphonic Band.
Though not intended that way, it can also be played without English Horn, 3rd bassoon, C Clarinet, Basset Horn, Contrabass Clarinet, String Bass, Cello and Harps.
