Russian composer Anton Arensky (1861-1906) composed his ballet Nuits d'Egypte, based on Théophile Gautier's novella Une nuit de Cléopatre, in 1900. The ballet was programmed by Serge Diaghilev at his Paris Saisons Russes wich became a great success. The suite from this ballet was first published in 1902 and consists of seven movements: I Ouverture II Danse d'Arsinoé et des esclaves III Danse des Juives IV Danse des Ghazies V Charmeuse des serpents VI Pas de deux VII Entrée solennelle d'Antoine. Dutch arranger Marcel Baars transcribed the entire suite for Symphonic Wind Orchestra.
