Edvard Armas Järnefelt (1869 -1958), was a Finnish conductor and composer. As a composer he only achieved some minor success with his orchestral works 'Berceuse' and 'Praeludium'. The 'Praeludium' was composed in 1900 as part of his 'Suite for Orchestra' (Sarja pienelle orkesterille). Since a long time this prelude became a work on its own and gained much popularity particular in England. It was performed fifty times during the 'Proms Concerts' between 1909 and 1940 and heard twice on the 'Last night of the Proms'.
