On February 6, 1813, Rossini’s opera was premiered in two acts in Venice. Although the opera was extremely popular in its early days, it soon disappeared from the opera stage. Only the overture and an aria from it have received attention to this day. As in many operas of the time, the plot in the Tancredi opera is about love, resentment, jealousy and revenge. The Tancredi libretto was based on the eponymous drama by the French writer and philosopher Voltaire (1694 - 1778) and was written by Gaetano Rossi (adaptation). (Edition Symphonic Works)
