In 1924, the celebrated composer Giacomo Puccini is working on his opera ‘Turandot’. He is seriously ill, feels that his end is near and that he lacks the strength to complete the opera. In a final meeting with his muse, they look back on their lives and their secret.
Italian lyricist Raffaele Prestinenzi was inspired by two books about Puccini: ‘Giacomo Puccini il romanzo della vita’ (Giuseppe Adami) and ‘Giacomo Puccini ricordi e aneddoti’ (Amedeo Guidugli). With these books as a starting point, Prestinenzi wrote ‘Ma il mistero è chiuso in me’, a beautiful story in 12 scenes alternating with well-known and lesser-known arias and instrumental works selected and arranged by Matteo Firmi.
‘The Puccini Mystery’ is a music theatre piece for soprano (Puccini's muse), actor (Puccini) and wind ensemble. The text is in Italian.
