In 1905 the Italian born composer Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) composed incidental music to Gozzi's fable Turandot - the story of the Chinese princess - of which he extracted in the same year an orchestral suite. Later in his career he returned to the subject and composed an opera on it (1916-1917).The original Turandot suite consists of eight movements of which four are selected for this transcription.
