In the summer of 1819, when Beethoven was busy composing the Credo (of the 'Missa solemnis'), he also received repeated requests from one of the seven members of an existing music society, which used to dance in an inn in Briel near Mödling (Austria), and wrote a few waltzes for them. Later these Walztzes were together with some Menuetts amd Ländlers published as 'Elf Wiener Tänze '(or 'Modlinger Tänze', WoO 17).
Italian arranger Matteo Firmi transcribed 7 of these dances for a Wind Ensemble.
