As a composer Lehár started with contributions to the opera-genre but the great triumph of his first operetta ‘Die lustige Witwe’ (‘The merry widow’) in 1905 made him clear that he had to give his talents to the operetta. One of these is the three-act operetta ‘Eva’ in which Lehár pointed out social problems and portrayed a simple factory worker instead of counts and farmers. Lehár composed the orchestral piece 'Zwanzinette' based on motifs from this operetta. Dutch arranger Roger Niese transcribed 'Zwanzinette' for Symphonic Band.
